Do you have a teenager that is ready to redecorate their room and you are just not sure where to start? Decorating a teen’s room can be a little stressful. You want something trendy and durable but at the same time it has to fit their personality and style. Since this is their room you will have to take the time to sit down and talk about what changes they would like to make.
Start by discussing what color paint they prefer or if they would rather have wall paper. Next, talk about the style of furniture and wall decorations they would like to have. Take notes as you are going over this information and decide what you will allow and what you will not. This is important to decide ahead of time because sometimes teenagers may want something that is not practical or that you just absolutely do not agree with.
Once you come to an agreement, you are ready to continue making plans to begin decorating. Consider the size of the room to make sure the new furniture will fit and still allow enough room to walk around comfortably. You don’t want to make it overcrowded where it is hard to maneuver. This will also make it difficult to keep clean.
Buy furniture that is both comfortable and useful. For example, a chest at the foot of the bed is stylish and can be used to hold keepsakes and other items that have no other place to go. Adding a soft comfortable chair can dress up any room and give your teen a place to sit and read a good book or just relax for awhile.
When it comes to themes you have a variety of choices such as classic black and white, garden, contemporary, causal, animal and of course traditional styles. Choose a theme they can continue to use for several years. You can choose from one that is always available or you can let them use their imagination and see what they come up with.
You will also have to set a budget and stick with it. Otherwise, you may end up in the middle of redecorating and have to stop due to lack of funds. The main thing is to come up with something they will be comfortable living in and that you agree with. Then take your time and have fun decorating.
