wooden ornament
We’ve been talking about making your own Christmas ornaments here on the blog because the season is coming when people start decorating for the holidays and we just love handmade items.
There are actually many different ways you can make wooden ornaments. Here are some examples:
• Wooden clothespin Rudolph, Santa, etc
• Popsicle stick design ornament
• Wooden blocks as ornaments
• Painted blocks of wood
The wooden clothespin has often been used in décor and crafts and this is just another great example of the fun you can do with it. You can add faces, a Santa or snowman hat and much more to your wood clothespin and decorate it for the holiday season then place it on your tree as a holiday ornament.
Popsicle sticks are a necessity in any craft box. With popsicle sticks, or craft sticks, you can decorate snowmen, Santas and other designs to hang on the tree. These are cute, simple to make and fun to look at year and year again. Have members of your family all make their own ornament and then hang them all on the family tree.
If using wooden blocks, like the toy blocks with letters and numbers that many children have, you can use them as they are by adding hooks or gluing ribbon or string to one side so it can be hung from the tree. Alternatively, you can make it more decorative by using the block as a base and wrapping it up like a present or putting some other type of décor or design on the square block and then adding the string to hang it.
You can use plain old blocks of wood and decorate them using stencils, cookie cutter tracers or just your own freehand drawings. You can drill two holes in the wood so it can be mounted on the wall or hung with string from the tree. This is even more fun when you allow your kids to decorate the blocks of wood in their own special way.
We hope you enjoy these ideas for decorating your tree or home this year with your own wooden ornaments. Many handmade wooden ornaments make very durable gifts that you can share or decorations that your family can keep year after year to decorate.
