Using wall art to decorate your home is an excellent idea but many people have a problem when it comes to hanging their wall art. They don’t know the proper placement and no matter what they do, it simply does not seem to look right. Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem. There are a few general rules that you can follow that will help you achieve the look you desire.
Below are 5 great tips for hanging wall art.
1. Hang Wall Art at Eye Level – Wall art should be hung at a height that places the center of the art even with the eye level of the average size person.
2. Consider the Size of the Wall – The size of the wall is very important when it comes to hanging wall art correctly. For narrow walls you need to use smaller art pieces and use larger ones for the walls with a lot of space.
3. Group Pictures Together – When you group pictures together you need to consider them to be one unit. In other words, you need to put them all together and experiment with combinations to determine which arrangement looks the best together in a group.
4. Horizontal and Vertical Lines – Horizontal and vertical lines in art or its frame work can affect the width and height of a room. Horizontal lines tend to add the illusion of width and vertical lines tend to add to the height of a room.
5. Placing Art above Furniture – Whenever you place art above a piece of furniture the general rule is that the piece of art should never be longer than the width of the furniture it is placed over. In fact, the width of the furniture should be 25% wider than the art.
Don’t be afraid to be creative when hanging wall art. You may be a little surprised at how good shaking things up a bit can really look.
