Building Children’s Playstands
Posted by: Lisa Mason on: August 14, 2009
Playstands are an interesting way to create a special play space for children. Wonderfully versatile, and easy to change, they can be anything from a fort to a puppet theater to a spaceship…just by switching the material you clip onto the frame!
The stands themselves are usually made of wood, contain shelves, and require some simple assembly. There are clips that can be used to build playhouses, a store front, a play kitchen…anything your child can imagine. The clips also are used to drape playsilks, sheets… any cloth, to the frame to help carry out the theme. But they won’t pinch your child’s fingers!
These versatile stands are light enough for a child to move, but are still sturdy enough to stand or sit on. By using two stands, clipped together and draped with imaginative fabric or sheets, you child can create any number of different fantasies, and have plenty of room to include several friends.
Play silks in different sizes can be purchased that depict anything from a castle, a pirate ship, a theatre curtain, a spaceship, a log cabin, to a beach cabana or a fast food kiosk! Using sheets, towels, blankets or other fabrics, your child can let his imagination go wild. But play silks can be used for other purposes as well. Your child becomes a princess or a super hero by clasping the silks around his neck, a Roman emperor by draping it like a toga, a pirate by turning it into a sash. The sky is the limit!
